Application Requirements
Refer to the job posting’s “REQUIREMENTS” section of the position you are interested in for information on the selection requirements.

Visit our Career Opportunities page and click on the “Apply Now” button of the job opening you are interested in.
If you do not have a governmentjobs.com profile, you will be required to create one. Remember to write down your username and password.
- Log on to governmentjobs.com
- Click on “Sign In” on the upper right hand corner of the screen.
- Click on “Create one” at the bottom of the pop up box to begin creating your profile.
Simply click on the Password Reset link and you will be allowed to change your password. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders for the password reset email.
The hiring process averages between 6-9 months.
If you meet the selection requirements of the position for which you applied, you will be scheduled for a test administration within 1-2 weeks. All correspondence will be sent to the email provided on your application.
You will be notified of your application status by email within 1-2 weeks.
No, please do not reapply. Applications take about 1-2 weeks to process. If you have not received an email after 2 weeks, email the Sworn Examinations Unit at swornexamsentrylevel@sheriff33.lasd.org.
If you applied for the Law Enforcement Technician (LET) position and you meet the selection requirements, you will be notified in approximately two months from the date you submitted your application.
Testing
The multiple choice test is administered via computer.
Refer to the job posting’s “EXAMINATION CONTENT” and “TEST PREPARATION” sections for more information.
If you applied for any of the Law Enforcement Job Family (LEJF) positions and you meet the selection requirements, you will be notified via email 1-2 weeks from the date you submitted your application
If you applied for the Law Enforcement Technician (LET) position and you meet the selection requirements, you will be notified in approximately two months from the date you submitted your application.
Multiple choice test results for the Law Enforcement Job Family (LEJF) positions which includes, Deputy Sheriff Trainee (DST), are typically given immediately after the test.
If you applied for the Law Enforcement Technician (LET) position, your test results will be emailed to you approximately 4-6 weeks from your test date.

For the Law Enforcement Job Family (LEJF) positions, outside agency test scores are not accepted. Applicants must take the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s multiple choice tests.
For the Law Enforcement Technician position, P.O.S.T. test scores may be accepted.

Yes, the Sheriff’s Academy is a paid training program.
Yes, you may apply for more than one position at the same time as long as the job posting is open and you meet the selection requirements for each of the position(s).

Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process. Candidates should not present proof of vaccination until instructed to do so by the hiring department.
